Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. An implant has a titanium part which is sitting in the bone and a crown which replaces the missing tooth.
BONE GRAFTING
Before a tooth is extracted, consideration should be given to how the tooth can be replaced. The best replacement for a lost tooth is with an implant. In order to place an implant, there has to be sufficient volume of bone. After extractions, bone tends to shrink and often there is not enough volume for implant placement. To prevent the bone shrinkage, bone grafting should be considered. There are several types of bone grafting material available. Bone grafting is done immediately after extractions and after several months of healing, an implant can be placed.
